Our holiday vignette in the store this month features a mid-century modern display that reminds me of all the things that I love about the pieces of this period: the clean-lined furniture, the warm wood tones, the simplicity of forms and minimal ornamentation mixed in with small doses of straight-up glamour. Mid-century designs from the 1950’s and 1960’s paint an accurate picture of the post-war period. I decorated my home for the holidays a week or so ago….but I find that half the fun is adding treasures to my collection throughout December. As the recent One Kings Lane ads say “Decorating is Never Done” and that’s true for the holiday season as well! A stroll down Sacramento Street this time of year usually finds me with a new ornament or candlesticks in hand. Holiday entertaining is a great excuse to freshen up the bar with beautiful glassware and trays. We are so excited to participate in the designer wreath auction with a beautiful mercury glass wreath at this year’s Jingle & Mingle at the Golden Gate Club. Jingle & Mingle is an incredible event benefitting Children of Shelters, an organization that creates opportunities and provides educational funding for the city’s 4,000+ homeless kids. The event raises more than $200,000 for the organization. With our wreath, we aimed to interpret the traditional notion of a wreath structure, so as to maintain the aesthetic essence of the holiday season, but also demonstrate a more versatile and modern look and feel.
